#1 - Right spots for cheap drinks

A guide for the winners (and everyone else)

Lucky Strike in Tribeca is pretty reasonable. Great place for lunch. A typical French borderline hole in the wall type place. They're bar area is decently small, but so is the dining area. Good cocktails and wine list. Makes you feel downright Parisian.
>> Lucky Strike, 59 Grand, bet Wooster and West Broadway, T. 212 941 0772

Epsteins in the LES is probably the best place to have a cheap drink and some good old American bar food. Straight forward, good location, and always some ridiculous extreme sport on the television.
>> Epstein’s Bar, 82 Stanton Street, T. 212 477 2232

Le Poisson Rouge in the West village is more for nightlife. Drinks aren’t quite as cheap, but definitely not unreasonable for Manhattan. Good shows with a bunch of well known acts coming through.

Jackie’s fifth amendment is an institution in Park slope. If you happen to be in lower Brooklyn check it out. Cheap drinks, been there forever, a naturally defined character. Very homey, it doesn't feel like you’re in the city at all.
>> Jackie’s 5th Amendment, 404 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn , T. 718 788 9123

#2 - Museums for a nap or a date

Who said that museums are only for works of art? Use them creatively.

The New Museum in the Bowery has spectacular views from its top floor, and the museum is fairly small overall. Intriguing and modern interior make it easy to wander. Great to spend an hour or two.
>> New Museum, 235 Bowery, T. 212 219 1222

The Metropolitan Museum, on the other hand, is great to waste time in because it's so huge and designed in traditional grandeur. You could hardly pay attention to all the works of art if you wanted to.
>> The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Avenue at 82nd Street T. 212 535 7710

The Neue Gallerie is right across the street. It's a lot smaller and specializes in German and Austrian artists. Cool contemporary stuff in an old and well formatted building. If you get to the Met and realize you don't have the time or patience for its vastness and/or population density go for the neue.
>> Neue Galerie, 1048 Fifth Avenue, T. 212 628 6200

#3 - Food with ambiance

When eating is not only a mouth affair

Republic in Union square is simple and well done. Thai food. Cheap. Great location. And an original and refreshing ambiance. There are some tables up front, but most seats are on communal benches. Everything is chilled out and somehow even posh, you'd forget your only paying like ten bucks.
>> Republic, 37 Union Square West, T. 212 627 7172

Gemma is located in the Bowery hotel. They took the Italian trattoria concept and pretty much nailed it. Well designed floor layout, with differently elevated sections. Random items like old glasses and candles and their wax line all the walls on random shelves.
>> Gemma, 335 Bowery, T. 212 505 9100

Babbo's near Washington square park is expensive, but it's probably Batali's best. While the decor or location might not quite inspire much creativity the food certainly does.
>> Babbo, 110 Waverly Place, North West corner Washington Square, T. 212 777 0303

Megu in Tribeca has the most astounding interior design of any restaurant that I've ever been to. To complex and convoluted to explain, but basically its feels like you're entering some combination of temple and labyrinth. Mind the costs.
>> Megu, 62 Thomas Street, T. 212 964 7777
